September 29, 2023                                                                                                                                                   Gisele Gonzalez | Staff Writer

On Saturday September 23 2023, Westlake Charter High School hosted a Homecoming dance on the K-8th campus, so that students came together and showed their support for their community.

Homecoming is a dance for students to socialize and to have fun. Many of the students had a great time and enjoyed homecoming. But what happened at homecoming?  I interviewed a few people about how homecoming was.  I interviewed a WCHS student, Edward Colen about what he thought of homecoming. “Homecoming was good. I got to hang out with people I wanted to hang out with. I had a great time, I wished it was longer.”

I also asked another WCHS student named Rasheed Shepherd what he thought of homecoming. He said, “Homecoming was fun, it was lively. The beginning was kind of slow and boring, but as time went by, it started to pick up and everyone started to have fun. It was very exciting for me and my homecoming date. It was a lot of fun and we tried a lot of the snacks and sweets that people brought and had a good time.”

During the interview I asked the same students what was not good about Homecoming or what they would've changed. Edward Colen said, “The music choice was kinda all the same, there was no good slow dancing music.” Rasheed Shepherd said, “It was so hot in there, they needed to put the AC to the max. I was sweating.  Next time they needed to offer cold water, not that room-temperature water, I was sweating and they gave me room temperature water.”

Although the attendees of homecoming had different perspectives on what could have been different or what they wanted to change they all seemed to have a great time overall. There were three photo booths at homecoming, a lot of dancing and there was a lot of food too like pizza, cookies, brownies and fruit.

Just like any other homecoming, there were students nominated for Homecoming Royalty. This year's winners for Homecoming Royalty were Noah Alexander De Leon, Hailey Tobias, Ayinde Fletcher, Nevaeha Woods, Sofia Dominguez and Chigozie Igwegbe.

Homecoming is a fun tradition every high school has to create memories and to show school spirit. WCHS students had a lot of fun moments including dancing, announcing the Homecoming Royalties and more. If you haven't gone to homecoming, consider going. It creates everlasting memories and you get to have a fantastic time! If you would like to read more interesting stories, follow The Expedition!
